ALPHA LIPOIC ACID: (ALA) is powerful antioxidant which can be applied as an approach to diabetes and its complications such as neuropathy. This product is also useful as an adjunct to viral infections such as hepatitis b and c and chronic HIV infections. Alpha lipoid acid can also assist in the removal of toxic substances from the body and detoxification of the liver. Studies on humans have demonstrated that ALA can improve recovery from liver surgery. It can also protect against some of the adverse effects associated with chemotherapy and chemical poisoning. ALA has the ability to promote liver regeneration and can protect against Tylenol induced liver and kidney damage. In 3 case reports of hepatitis, the need for liver transplantation was averted with IV infusions of ALA, selenium and milk thistle.
GLUTATHIONE: Glutathione (GSH) plays an important role in a multitude of cellular processes and reactions. It also improves the water solubility of cellular toxins, thus enhancing their clearance from the body. Disturbances in GSH are implicated in a number of diseases, including cancer, diseases of aging, cystic fibrosis, and cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disease, immune disturbances, metabolic problem, and neurodegenerative diseases. GSH protects cells by neutralizing oxygen molecules before they can form damaging free radicals in the tissues of the brain, blood vessels, immune system, kidney liver, lungs and skin. GHS increases the water solubility of toxins thereby facilitating their excretion in urine, feces, sweat and even by breathing. Humans naturally make GSH but we can become deficient when under stress or as a consequence of aging. Cellular damage is thought to be involved in diseases such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease in which GSH may assist. In addition, imbalances in GSH levels affect immune system function, and are thought to play a role in the aging process. Because GSH can make cancer cells resistant to chemo therapy, we do not administer GSH to cancer patients currently undergoing chemo-therapy. High dose vitamin C is used without GSH for patients undergoing active chemo-therapy.
